Title strip "JOOMLA EXTENSIONS" and heading "Joomla payments, via Stripe." on a Multizone branded background.

Payments via Stripe for Joomla is a payment and subscription engine for Joomla, connected to Stripe. Payment plans with pricing tiers, recurring subscriptions, discount codes, payment links, multi-currency at the paid tiers. What it deliberately isn't is a product catalogue or shopping cart. Today's post on what it does, when it fits, and when you want something bigger.

What it does, and what it deliberately doesn't

The extension connects a Joomla site to Stripe for payment plans (fixed prices with optional pricing tiers), recurring subscriptions (active-subscriber counts, discount codes, tax rate handling), payment links (URLs you can send to customers or embed in Joomla content), and Stripe webhooks for confirmations flowing back to the site. Stripe hosts the payment page; your Joomla site configures the plans, the discount codes and the customer records.

What it deliberately does not do: product catalogues, stock management, shipping, customer accounts, order histories, multi-item baskets. If you need those, you need VirtueMart, WooCommerce on a separate WordPress install, or a hosted e-commerce platform. Payments via Stripe for Joomla is for the case where you have a small number of plans to bill against, not a catalogue to manage.

When it fits

Consultancies charging for a discovery call or a fixed-fee report. Community sites running paid memberships. Content sites running paid subscriptions to members-only areas. Charities taking one-off donations and recurring supporter contributions. Workshop registrations, coaching packages, single products priced and described in a Joomla article. Cases where you need Stripe payments and subscription handling alongside a Joomla content site and don't want to bolt on a full e-commerce stack.

When you want something bigger

When the site genuinely is e-commerce, not a content site with paid plans. When you need stock control, variable shipping, customer accounts, order history, multi-item baskets. When you need catalogue-scale product management. VirtueMart inside Joomla, WooCommerce inside a parallel WordPress install, or a hosted platform will repay the additional setup cost.

What the trial gives you

The trial gives you the full payment flow, connected to Stripe, taking real payments: one payment plan with two pricing tiers, up to twenty active subscribers, up to ten paid transactions a month, one currency, one domain, and a maximum transaction value of £40. Enough to launch a working plan against a live Stripe account, at small scale, and validate the fit before committing to a subscription. The trial's plan and subscribers carry on working after the 30 days.

What the paid tiers add

The tier structure follows the pattern used across the Multizone catalogue: Trial, Standard, Premium and Enterprise.

Standard raises the numeric limits (ten payment plans, ten discount codes, ten payment links, five hundred transactions a month, two hundred and fifty active subscribers, two currencies, three domains, £70 maximum transaction value) and adds tax rate handling.

Premium raises them further (unlimited plans, unlimited currencies, fifty discount codes, a hundred payment links, five thousand transactions, two thousand five hundred subscribers, £100 maximum), adds custom branding on checkout, and adds priority support.

Enterprise is unlimited across the board with premium support.

The full tier comparison with the specific numeric limits (payment plans, active subscribers, monthly transactions, maximum transaction value, permitted domains) is on the Payments via Stripe for Joomla detail page. Start with a free trial. Upgrade at any time.
