Hoax Calls – Policing Twitter tips

Police Sergeant Andy Travis in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria is a good example of an officer who uses Social Media to help him in his work. He recently sent out a tweet about a Hoax Call.

"Hoax call to a stabbing, Why do people insist on wasting our time with hoax calls"

He has updated his community with what he is dealing with and one of the problems of being a 999 response officer. A serious call like this would have meant that a number of units would have been diverted from other calls. It would have an effect on the police charter times in getting to those other calls. It makes people aware of why sometimes when they call for the police that they do not get the quick response they would like.
